Passenger compartment fire in Ford Escort
An attorney called on us
to investigate an automobile fire in which the driver was burned
severely. Through photographs of the vehicle taken shortly after
the accident, we were able to pinpoint the source and origin
of the fire as an overheated catalytic converter and exhaust
pipe, which caused the interior carpeting to ignite. NHTSA files
confirmed a disproportionate number of similar incidents in
this model, occurring after prolonged engine idle.
Ford settled the case during
trial.
